Our History
1996
CompanyNet is founded
CompanyNet is founded as a bespoke intranet/extranet company. The internet is still new to most; we make plans to become market leaders in this emerging technology. The Scotch Whisky Association becomes the first ever client in our history.
1998
CompanyNet is acquired by Burmah Castrol
After our history of working with Burmah Castrol, CompanyNet is acquired by the company to become their web innovation arm.
Burmah Oil was founded in Glasgow in 1886 and for around a century the company played a major role in the oil industry.
In 1963, the Burmese government under Ne Win nationalised all industries, including Burmah Oil, leading to the formation of the Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise from the company’s nationalized assets.
Following on from 1963, the company expanded its operations beyond Burma, exploring new opportunities in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Australasia, the Americas, Canada, and the North Sea until 1986. Notably, in 1966, it acquired Castrol and subsequently rebranded itself as Burmah-Castrol.
2000
Burmah Castrol is acquired by BP Amoco
BP Amoco acquires Burmah Castrol, and CompanyNet staff buy out the company.
Amoco is a brand of fuel stations operating in the United States and owned by British conglomerate BP since 1998.
2003
CompanyNet becomes a Microsoft Solutions Partner
As a result of our early adoption, knowledge and understanding of Microsoft SharePoint and Dynamics CRM, CompanyNet becomes a Microsoft Solutions Partner. Our focus increasingly shifts towards business solutions. Our client base increases, including the beginning of our work with Coca Cola.
2005
We implement solutions for Disney
We start our work with Disney, a relationship that is still ongoing. The solution we went on to implement was referred to as a ‘business critical’ part of our history.
2009
Change of Management
CompanyNet becomes wholly-owned by the Management Team.
2011
CompanyNet achieves more Gold competencies
CompanyNet becomes one of the first Microsoft partners in Europe to achieve Gold competencies in both Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Collaboration and Content (SharePoint). Additionally we achieve a Silver competency in Application Development.
2013
Rebrand
We undergo a rebrand, revealing our new tagline: “Collective Intelligence for Better Business”, summing up CompanyNet’s focus and direction. We are awarded ‘Best Rebrand’ by the Institute of Internal Communications. We also moved into the heart of Edinburgh city centre, to a new state-of-the-art head office on George Street.
2015
New office in Glasgow
Our new office opened in Glasgow’s iconic Hatrack building, offering us a second base from which to better serve our growing west coast client base.
